I WISH I WAS BORN A CAT
(A one-woman-show by Anna Yaremchuk)
Written by the contemporary Ukrainian playwright Neta Nezhdana, “I wish I was born a cat” is a monologue of a refugee woman from the Donbass region.
Since 2014, Donbas is occupied by pro-Russian rebels. Pro-Ukrainian people are under the constant threat of being imprisoned and deprived of their property in favor of the self-proclaimed “authorities”. And those who flee from Donbas to other Ukrainian cities face the challenge of starting your life from scratch… Such is the fate of the protagonist – a woman in sunglasses selling three kittens on the street. A white kitten, a gray kitten and a black kitten – they’re the only thing that remained from her former home, her previous life. Will she be able to overcome her loss? Does anyone want a kitten?
The performance won the “best one-man-show” prize at the “Saint Muse” Theater Festival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2018).
Directed by Volodymyr Zavalnyuk
The duration of the show is 46 minutes.
A WOMAN ALONE
(A one-woman-show av Mariia Hrunicheva)
“A Woman Alone” is a dark comedy of the Italian classic and Nobel prize winner Dario Fo written in collaboration with his partner Franca Rama. This is the story of a housewife locked inside her apartment by her jealous husband. Besides taking care of her baby and doing her house chores, she also needs to look after her sexually perverted handicapped brother-in-law, while dealing with a peeping tom and frustrating, dirty phone calls. Though she chooses to look at her insane stories with a great deal of irony, her monotonous life drives her mad. The play is the protagonist’s monologue, addressed to the neighbor who just moved next door, and as she bares her heart, she comes to new realizations… This show is at the same time funny and ruthless, as it represents the cry of dozens of generations of physically and verbally abused women.
The show premiered at Koleso Theater in Kiev in 2007 and participated at the “Atspindys” festival in Visagynas, Lithuania (2022).
Director: Vitaly Sementsov
The duration of the show is 70 minutes.
Varmt välkomna!
