Have you heard what is going on in Australian wine? The vibrant wine scene in Australia is changing, reinventing itself and telling the world about its evolution through its wines.
You have probably heard of the classic regions such as Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley, Margaret River and Coonawarra, and even some of the less well known ones like Tasmania, Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula. But did you know there are over 60 regions, with a huge variation of altitude and climate, from Orange and Tumbarumba to Geographe over in the west.
It’s not just Australian wine regions that have expanded in number; the range of grape varieties has also increased along with the styles of wine that are being produced. Through a combination of winemakers’ desire to try new things, an awareness of the vineyards they are working with, and environmental changes, new varieties are popping up across Australia, often with spectacular results. From the tiniest planting of Assyrtiko, to Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and even Saperavi, new styles are making headlines.
Add to this the human factor, and you have a thirst for knowledge, experimentation and less intervention in the wine making process. A new generation of wine makers are driving some of the more extreme trends, towards natural wines for instance, but there are plenty of winemakers creating wines to be delicious and to express the complexity of site and vintage conditions.
So if you thought you knew Australian wine, you might need to think again, and we invite you to discover for yourself all the exciting aspects of Australian wine at our tasting on Tuesday 10th October 2017.
Grand Hotel, Grand Hotell, fr. Grand Hôtel, ofta namnet på det största hotellet på en ort. I Paris stod Grand Hôtel färdigt 1862 och i London 1870. Grand Hôtel i Stockholm med 300 rum varav 31 sviter etablerades 1874 på initiativ av fransmannen Jean-François Régis Cadier. Grand Hotel symboliserade länge också det stora internationella hotellet i litteratur och på film. Vicki Baums roman "Människor på hotell" blev film 1932 under namnet Grand Hôtel med Greta Garbo i huvudrollen.
