WARWICK / JOHNSON

Ricky Warwick and Damon Johnson first met and became band mates when they joined forces in Thin Lizzy in the fall of 2011, and their creative partnership evolved when, along with Scott Gorham, they launched Black Star Riders in 2013. Warwick and Johnson co-wrote the bulk of material on the BSR debut album, All Hell Breaks Loose, and furthered their efforts on the 2015 follow-up, The Killer Instinct. In the summer of that same year, the two performed for the first time as an acoustic duo, Warwick/Johnson. Their rollicking, diverse setlist contains all manner of material, spanning the past two decades of bands they have individually played in, as well as new solo material and covers of songs from their favorite artists.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Ricky Warwick was cut from the cloth of a mill workers jacket. Ricky has embraced no-frills, emotionally direct, pure music exemplified by such American influences as Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Woodier Guthrie and Steve Earle. Born in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland, it turned out that Ricky was a natural fit for the well-worn acoustic guitar. It wasn't long before he was aping Johnny Cash, Dylan and Springsteen records, although it would not be much longer before bands like Stiff Little Fingers, MC5, The Clash and Sex Pistols infiltrated his bedroom. Warwick would join UK punk/folk band New Model Army in the late ‘80s as rhythm guitarist, and went on to found The Almighty in Glasgow, Scotland. The Almighty enjoyed ten Top 40 singles and four Top 20 albums in the UK and shared the stage with such iconic bands as The Ramones, Alice In Chains, Iron Maiden and Metallica over their career. In 2002, Ricky embarked on an acoustic solo career and recorded his first release, Tattoos & Alibis. Subsequent Warwick solo albums were Love Many Trust Few (2006), Belfast Confetti (2009), Hearts On Trees (2014), and When Patsy Cline Was Crazy (And Guy Mitchell Sang The Blues) (2014).

Damon Johnson is an American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter born in Macon, Georgia and raised in small Alabama towns, Monroeville and Geraldine. He moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1987 and would go on to form the southern alternative rock band, Brother Cane, in 1992. The band released three albums, sold a cumulative of over 500,000 records, and achieved three #1 singles at U.S. rock radio. Brother Cane toured extensively and was support act on tours by Van Halen, Aerosmith, Robert Plant, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Candlebox. The group disbanded in 1999. Johnson toured for 6 years as guitarist for Alice Cooper between 2004 and 2011, and achieved co-writing and recording credits with John Waite, Stevie Nicks, Carlos Santana, Sammy Hagar, Faith Hill, Skid Row, and The Temptations. Johnson has also released two solo acoustic albums, Dust (2000) and Release (2010).
