Like Tammy Wynette fronting the Ramones

Till FOLK Å ROCK måndag 21/5! Öppnar 19, På scen 20. Fysiska biljetter hos Folk å Rock, Musik & Konst och Skivesset. Honkytonk, Bar & Restaurang.

(Olle Berggren). "Låter som Detroit Cobras spelar Lone Justice (Maria McKee) debutplatta på en stökig bar" (Urban Henriksson).

Sarah Shook was born in Rochester, NY but she moved around a lot over the years and eventually settled in Chapel Hill, NC, where she is currently based with her band Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. She formed that band in 2013 (but played with other backing bands before that), and they’re set to release their second album, Years, on April 6 via Bloodshot. It’s the followup to Sidelong, which the Disarmers self-released in 2015 and Bloodshot re-released last year. Sarah’s music eschews the polish of today’s mainstream country and hearkens back to a raw, no-frills, no-bullshit approach. She also challenges the conservative stereotypes that country music gets pegged with. She told Rolling Stone:

I think that the truth needs to be out there, and the other thing that is really important to me is having a very diverse audience. This genre of music attracts a certain kind of person sometimes who is very close-minded and I want to tell those people, ‘Look, you’re welcome to be a fan. But full disclosure, I’m a fucking civil rights activist, and I’m a bisexual, and I’m an atheist, and I’m a vegan,’ you know what I mean? That’s a whole lot of non-redneck shit right there.
Fans of classic country, as well as the twangier side of contemporary artists like NEKO CASE and Deer Tick, may wanna check Sarah out if they don’t know her already. She should also appeal to certain fans of STURGILL SIMPSON, MARGO PRICE and other indie friendly Country artists. Ahead of the new album’s release, we’re premiering the song “Good as Gold,” along with its lyric video. Watch/listen, and check out the album artwork and tracklist below.

Sarah is also touring, including SXSW and a Malmö show on May 21 at Folk å Rock. Tickets for that show go on sale 15/3
