“several attempts at braiding my way home” är en samling strategier för att skapa ett hem i ett afro-nordiskt landskap. Det är en föreställning där en pulserande rytm reser som ekolod under vattenytan.
I rörelsen mellan hantverk och spekulativa förslag insisterar “several attempts at braiding my way home” på fiktion som verktyg för att omdefiniera potential och för att hitta möjligheter för återhämtning och tillhörighet.
Föreställningen simmar med hjälmdelfiner som omdefinierar betydelsen av ursprung. Den lyssnar till valrossar som navigerar med hjälp av sitt hår.
Adam och Amina Seid Tahir är svensk-eritreanska syskon, Amina är koreograf och konstnär medan Adam är koreograf, dansare och webbutvecklare (som byggt MDT:s hemsida). Här skapar de en plats för undervattensekon och utbyten mellan olika delar av deras identiteter. De vävda, svenska fisknäten, och den eritreanska traditionen av flätat hår, flätas samman för att skapa en ny folksägen, ett nytt landskap där de kan bygga ett hem att dansa i, ett förlängt hav att simma i.

“several attempts at braiding my way home” is a collection of strategies for creating home in an afro-nordic landscape. It is a performance where precise rhythm travels like underwater signals in the ocean.
Shifting between labour and speculative proposals “several attempts at braiding my way home” insists on fiction as a tool for quaking potential and finding opportunities for recovery and belonging. The performance swims alongside Clymene dolphins, who defy understandings of heritage. It listens to walruses who trust their hair for navigation.
Adam and Amina Seid Tahir are siblings of Swedish/Eritrean heritage. Amina is a choreographer and visual artist while Adam is a choreographer, dancer and web developer (who has built MDT’s website). Offering a space of underwater echoes and exchanges between components of their identities. The woven, Swedish fishing nets and the Eritrean practice of braided hair are intertwined to create an Afro-Nordic folklore, a new landscape where they can build a home to dance in, an extended sea to swim in.

‘Global Majority refers to people who are Black, African, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the Global South, and or, have been racialised as ethnic minorities’. The term ‘Global Majority’ responds to the fact that these groups represent the majority of the worlds population’. The term was coined by Rosemary Campbell-Stephens MBE, a Black, of African Caribbean descent and heritage, specifically Jamaican parentage, British educator and Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Education, University of London. Campbell-Stephen writes that her ‘identity does not exist in relation to whiteness and transcends my geographic place of birth. I am part of the Global Majority’.
