Gothenburg Symphony has produced audio description introductions to its concerts on gsoplay.com, also available through the orchestra's app. These introductions allow more people to get a feeling of the interplay between conductor and orchestra, and to get an impression of the stage and how the musicians are seated.
So far introductions are available to Sibelius' Symphony No 1, Shostakovich's Symphony No 10 and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.
- Classical music can provide wonderful experiences and we want as many people as possible to share them. Our aim is that the audio description introductions will bring the listeners closer to the performance and get a feeling of what's happening on the stage, says Eva Essvik, audience and business developer of the Gothenburg Symphony.
After the audio description introduction the listener can listen to the concert performance itself. The concerts below are available for viewing throughout the summer, on gsoplay.se or the app that can be downloaded from AppStore and Google play.
The audio description is done by Jennifer Hawkins. If this trial is successful, more concert introductions will be available in the autumn.
